...He Knew What He Was Talking About...

I happen to come across a familiar name on some paperwork and after some digging around, I re-discovered an old, old friend of mine.

We met somewhere around the 5th or 6th grade and we spent a lot of time together because teachers used to always sit the kids in alphabetical order which meant for years and years she sat one or two seats in front of me. Except that one time in the seventh grade when she was put in the wrong class.

By the time they discovered she was a nerd, too and moved her into our class she ended up behind me. I remember turning around to talk to her sometimes and she would be scribbling her boyfriend’s name all over stuff and “Mrs.  Her-first His-last-name”  on any space she could find.

Not long after we graduated high school, they got married. I remember going to the wedding with one of my best friends at the time. “How long do you think it will last?” I heard the lady behind me say.

..."My Boyfriend is a Girl"...

Before it became completely staged, Jerry Springer was half way interesting and pretty darn sad.

You could sometimes see how hurt people were to find out these horrible shocking revelations. I watched it anyway in utter disbelief along with how many other millions of people until I grew bored of the encouraged drama.

Still, there was one episode that always stood out in my mind: Monique and Reno.

Every once in a great while my sister or I will turn to the other one and say, “I wonder whatever happened to them.”

Thanks to MsQueenPatti TV for the uploads. That’s two more VHS tapes I can throw away.

(Happy (Almost) Thanksgiving!!)

Except for every member of the family being you in a costume, this probably isn't that far off from Thanksgiving with your own people.

Have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

...I Look at You and Sing a Song...

Admit it, you still have your LP just like I do, and remember every word.

This song has been on my mind for weeks.

...Time's a wastin'...

So my birthday was just a few weeks ago and it’s true what they say: the older you get, the faster those suckers come around.

Not good considering my ongoing struggles with personal time management.

Seems like I just wrote a birthday post, and now here I am again thinking about the year gone by, and the year ahead; what’s done and what’s not quite there yet.

I deliberately didn’t set a ton of goals for myself in this last year just because I had a weird feeling about the year. (I was right, too.) Still the few plans I did make didn’t quite match up to my results.

It wasn’t because I didn’t dream big, it was because I know myself too well. I'm not grumbling, I'm just saying.

As usual, most of what I accomplished worked well for people that weren’t me, and I failed to scoot myself up to the front burner.

I was watching the movie, The Fighter, the other night and realized that I identify well with the protagonist, Micky. He did so much to please so many and all he had to show for it was a bashed-in face.

I don’t want to make it sound like I sat around all last year whimpering about my busy schedule and how much people get on my nerves (even if it was and they do). I half way mentioned without really mentioning a project that fell into my lap that I’m very excited about.

...Well That Was Fun...

Raise your hand if you had a hangover this morning.

I don’t care if you were drinking (celebratory or not), sleep deprived or just confused because when you went to bed last night that map was so red, you thought it was bleeding,  either way, chances are that you woke up this morning feeling a little fuzzy.

And it didn’t even matter who you voted for.

So what happened?

A few things really.

The first being the possibility that  a lot of those people that voted for Mitt Romney were not voting for Mitt Romney. They were voting against Barack Obama.

You will always, always have that segment of the population that just did not want the black guy to win. Even in a so-called “multiracial” or “post-racial” America. Some people are still afraid that a black person in power means it’s only a matter of time before we round up and enslave all the white people.

Let me reassure you that this has never been part of the plan. Or if it is, no one told me. Equality is just equality, it doesn’t mean one person has to have their foot on the other person. Remember that.

And remember this, making choices based on what you don’t want almost never works. I know that from years and years of personal experience. It’s like turning to run from something only to take two steps and smack your face into a wall.

Beyond that there were too many times when Mitt Romney said or did something that suggested:

...If It Feels Good, You Gotta Do It...

Even if it doesn’t, do it anyway.

I mean voting, of course, what were you thinking?

If you like the current poll numbers or if you’re wondering what the heck is wrong with people, run to your assigned voting location and share your opinion with your vote.

...It Still Kind of Resonates...

Released just before the 2004 Presidential election, the message in Eminem's Mosh video still applies all these years later.

Whatever you love or hate, make your opinion known.  Your vote does count, or they wouldn't be trying so hard to squash it.

Election day this year is November 6th. I'll meet you at the polls.
